Patanjali Dant Kanti Toothpaste – worth all the noise its making?

Today I am reviewing the very popular Patanjali Dant Kanti Toothpaste. Yeah.. yeah, its associated with Ramdev Baba and the humdrum around his FMCG Brand- Patanjali. Amidst all the noise with linked keywords like Propaganda, Yoga, Marketing gimmick, Ayurveda, Politics, Nepotism etc etc one cannot deny the fact that Patanjali rose to a Rs. 5,000-crore company in less than a decade, due to which other MNCs have been forced to shift focus on Ayurveda too. I have also mentioned this in the Ultra Blends post here. Hypothetically even if the associated keywords are true, the renewed interest in natural ingredients is a definite good thing! To be honest I would have never tried Dant Kanti but my Dentist recommended it!

Patanjali – Dant Kanti Toothpaste | Benefits

With all the drama surrounding Patanjali, I was not sure what to expect when my Dentist suggested this product, a few years back. I have Gingivitis and at the time my gums bled as if they were having a permanent period, so after an exceptionally painful session with my Dentist, she suggested I use this along with the Patanjali Divya Dant Manjan. I had my doubts but I would have tried anything to prevent my return to that dreaded dentist’s chair. Its been a few years since and I have used it everyday, twice a day and my gums don’t bleed anymore!

It has a very strong Clove (Lavang) flavoured taste which takes a little getting used to but I have grown to like it. Post use one’s breath also smells of Cloves for quite a bit. It is very economical and on a quick comparison seems to contain a lot more natural ingredients than the usual supermarket picks. It does contain Fluroide which is bad, but there doesn’t seem to be an escape as all other popular brands also contain this notorious ingredient.

The only downside is that it looks like shit! (Yes, there I said it! But this is some real good shit!) The brown colour is the most off-putting part and gradually due to this the tooth-brush bristles also tends to become brown. If you have a white wash basin then after brushing you need to spend some 5 more minutes to rinse your basin.

Closing Thought:

It has greatly reduced the severity of my case of Gingivitis and my gums don’t bleed as often. Personally I am very happy with the results. My Ma, Pa, MIL & FIL have all tried it and have claimed that it has been beneficial but the Husband and Bro refuse to give it a shot due to their notions about the brand and its values. I feel this product deserves to be given a chance. Also there is a new Advanced variant available in the market which is slightly more expensive than the original. I am yet to try it but I look forward to it.

Let me know if you have tried it in the comments. I  would love to know what has your experience has been like and what are your thoughts about the brand.

  1. Interesting. I’ve never heard of this toothpaste. It sounds like something that might be good for me, due to my gum health. I’m going to look into this. Thank you for posting your review!
