Dry Shampoo Review | Batiste vs. BBlunt

All of us have those days where lack of sleep and exhaustion causes a panic situation when we have overslept and are running beyond just late! By the grace of Murphy’s Laws, on this particular day your hair will decide to rebel. Dry shampoos are a boon on such days.

Dry Shampoos have been around for a long time but in India it is only recently that they have become readily available at affordable prices. Check out this great infographic by Toni & Guy that pretty much sums up everything you ever wanted to know about dry Shampoo. Today I am reviewing two options available in India  1: Back to Life dry shampoo by BBlunt and 2: Instant Hair Refresh dry shampoo by Batiste.

Batiste: Batiste refreshes your hair between washes, leaving it feeling gorgeously clean and fresh with added Body and texture. No water required!

BBlunt: Revamp your hair in just a spray. Just shake, spray and rub it on for 2 minutes.

I have a very oily scalp and mid length thin straight hair which tends to be dry and frizzy towards the end. Every wash I lose an incredible amount of hair. To combat this scary hair fall I decided to reduce washing my hair as often. So since few years I wash my hair only once a week (Sunday) to avoid breakage and clean the scalp off of the sebum. I spend the complete work week in a closed air-conditioned environment so my scalp is comparatively less exposed to dirt and pollution, so once a week wash works for me. Midweek the hair starts getting oily and the oilyness increases everyday thereafter. To control it I thought I should give dry shampoos a shot.

I first tried the BBlunt- Back to Life Dry Shampoo. The claim about Revamp in one spray is just plain impossible, you need to be thorough to see any kind of difference. You need quite a bit to see its effect. I had the mini bottle so it finished in no time due to this. Also, the effect lasts only a few hours. After which you are back to limp hair. It’s a quick fix and not an alternative to actual wet shampooing. It has a scent that lingers for a long time and if you spray it from too close or too much the white residue is evident for longer. The best part about it is, when the contents of the pressurised can hit the scalp it gives a instant cooling effect which I find very refreshing on a summer day.

When I was half way through the BBlunt I thought I shoud try an alternate to come up with a comparison so I chose the Instant Hair Refresh dry shampoo by Batiste in Floral & Flirty Blush. They had recently launched in India then. To be honest the difference between the two is very slight. In this case the scent doesnt linger as much and but you still need quite a bit to notice a difference. The scent and cost slightly differ from BBlunt but ultimate performance is pretty much the same. The good part about Batiste is that there are options in fragrances and there is one option which is darker in colour, which would be ideal for Indian hair colour. But of course it is more expensive because corporations need to make money riding on people’s insecurity!

Closing Thoughts:

Both of them are similar as far as performance is concerned. The differences are very slight. If I had to make a suggestion I would say Batiste only because it has fragrance options and is slightly cheaper.

Both of these help to add a slight lift and texture to the roots, without any stiffness (like certain hair sprays). It reduces greasiness and helps refresh the look of hair when one doesn’t have the time for a wash. They are by no means a substitute for actual shampoo but an emergency fix. Disadvantages being, they are quite mild so visible results can only be seen on limp or fine hair. I don’t think this will have any perceivable effect on thick/ heavy bodied hair.

Could yoi please suggest me any shampoo for greaseness because i have dandruff and post pregnancy hairfall n mine is thick hair

    • Hey Ramya, have you read my reviews of the shampoos and conditioners from OGX. Please check it out. I like them and I think the argan oil variant might work for you. Also something that has really helped is reducing the number of times I wash hair. I do it once a week and it is helping in hairfall control.

    • Ramya, I love OGX Shampoo and have reviewed many products on the blog from the brand. Check them out for your concerns. There is a Biotin Variant that has shown good results for hair fall control.
