OGX – Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo & Conditioner | Review

I recently tried the Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco – Intense Moisturising Treatment and I was impressed. I was almost running out of shampoo and conditioner so I went ahead and purchased the Shampoo and Conditioner from the same range. I had heard so much hoopla about this that I was compelled to check it out.

They comes in a sturdy plastic bottle and the conditioner and shampoo look dangerously similar to each other. They can be easily confused one for the other in the shower so one needs to read the label every time. The good thing about the packaging is they claim to be ecofriendly since they are made of recycled post consumer resin. Both smell the same and the fragrance has nothing remarkable about it and it doesn’t last for more than a day.

The shampoo is of a thin gel like consistency where as the conditioner is thick and creamy. The good part about the shampoo is it claims to have sulphate free surfactants and is paraben free. It does a good job of cleaning the hair and scalp without drying it. The hair feels soft and hydrated. I have mid length straight hair with an oily scalp so I do need quite a bit to cover all that hair. I have tried this shampoo without any conditioner and surprisingly it held its ground, which says a lot about its performance.

The shampoo gets your hopes up but the conditioner is prompt to bring you back down. After the shampoo did so well, the lacklustre performance of the conditioner was very unsatisfying. It is a pricey product and I expected more. The conditioner by itself does nothing for my hair. In consistency it seems rich but it wont smoothen the hair nor does it detangle. If used along with the shampoo there is some effect which I think can be attributed to the shampoo alone.

Pros:

  • Eco Friendly Packaging
  • Cruelty Free
  • Sulphate Free Surfactants
  • Shampoo cleans without drying the hair.

Cons:

  • Conditioner has no perceivable effect
  • Conditioner is pricy considering the poor performance. (Similar level of performance can be achieved by drugstore products for less)

Closing Thoughts:

Apple sometimes does fall really far away from the tree. Ditch the conditioner and go for the treatment. They cost the same and the treatment works far better in comparison to the conditioner. The shampoo is worth giving a shot if you are looking for something slightly better than the super market picks.

    • Amber, thanks for swinging by. They still have a limited offering here in India but I generally hear that folks are quite fond of their products. Let me know which oil in particular you liked, I will surely check it out.

      • I think it was in the same packaging as your shampoo and conditioner! I can’t remember what it was called. I’ve been using a Wella oil recently. I’ll have to try it again after I finish that!

    • Hey Kim, Thanks for stopping by. So here in India the treatment retails for the same amount as the conditioner. In my opinion the intensive moisturising treatment from the same range is definitely a better performer. I have reviewed it earlier, check it out.

  1. Interesting findings… I’ve been looking at these products a log time now. But, have yet to try them. Thanks for your review. I will think twice about the conditioner.

    • Stacy, thanks a lot for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Yeah OGX is known to have some really great products. It’s unfortunate that the Conditioner didn’t work out, perhaps try a smaller size to test it out if it’s available at your end.
