Regrettable Purchase Vol. 3

This is one of the most popular series on this blog and I absolutely understand why! Nobody wants to waste their time and money on non- performing products. Great marketing can sell us air and the best of us will fall for it so here is an attempt to save you some money.

Read the Volume 1 in this series here and Volume 2 here

1: Nivea: Lip Balms | Fruity Shine – Peach & Original.

Cost: 185 INR for 4.8 grams | Purchased here: http://amzn.to/2vEAWU8

By far one of the most useless lip balms I have ever tried. Zero hydration power and no nourishment to be expected out of these suckers. All they do is give a shine which will last for barely 10 minutes and fade away making the lips feel drier than before.

2: The Body Shop: Body Sorbet in Fuji Green Tea

The Body Shop products are a hit or a miss and this one is a huge miss. I got this during the summer expecting some light weight hydration but what I got instead was no- hydration at all! It has a weird grainy gel texture. The only thing that this product has going for itself is the scent, it opens with a burst of very crisp and quite overwhelming scents which some people might appreciate. That kind of intense fresh scent is OK during the mornings but not otherwise. If you are looking for any hydration, look somewhere else.

3: Innisfree: Jeju Handcream in Peach

Cost: 300 INR for 100ml | Purchased here: http://amzn.to/2tFjCBr

This is not moisturizing and leaves a weird coating on the skin. Your hands (along with whatever you touch) remains sticky for over an hour and it has a sharp artificial fruit smell that lingers forever. It has a silicon-y texture which is repeatedly-wipe-your-hands-on-pants greasy. You might even lose whatever moisture your hand possesses because one constantly feels like washing the hands with soap to remove that grease! This was such a disappointment that I have done an in-depth review here.

St. Ives is an old player in the scrub department. When Indian Economy wasn’t open to foreign goods people coming from abroad would get big tubes of this stuff as presents. I wanted to re-live the glory days I guess, that’s the only reason to justify this terrible purchase decision. This scrub is of a very thick consistency really harsh for the facial skin, the granules are quite rough and large in size that cause micro scratches on the epidermis. Although it might work for harder skin, like that of elbows and the feet. Also I have heard folks with nut allergies turning into lobsters after using this because the exfoliating granules are made of walnut-shell (and the funny part is it says Hypoallergenic)! This one is way too harsh and your face deserves a gentler scrub than this.

5: Clinique: Take the day off – Makeup remover for lids, lashes and lips.

Before coming across this product I never thought Clinique could go wrong with anything, because I am a huge fan of some of their products. But this makeup remover turned out to be such a disappointment, thankfully this was a sample. You need a lot of this to dislodge and remove things like mascara and eyeliner. After a few attempts it will dislodge and melt, but it is absolutely incapable of lifting the removed stuff off your face, so basically you will just be swirling the dirt around ultimately looking like a panda. Above all its extremely oily which will need a considerable amount of soap and water to wash. The oil also tends to get into my eye and leaves a film which I absolutely detest. For the premium price this is a complete downer. If you are interested something which is more effective and way less hassle than this try this one.

Colourpop Blotted Lip in Shade Drip | Swatch

This lipstick gives a matte stain of color that is sheer. It’s like how you wear any lipstick and then blot it to bring down the intensity, in this case there is no need to blot. It’s for the folks who want to have some colour on their lips but not make it very evident. The Shade Drip is a Rosy Mauve and can be built up but despite that don’t expect a full coverage.

The concept of blotted lips is fine but this formula is extremely drying and application is quite hard as it tugs at the lips because the bullet in itself needs to pressed hard on the lip to transfer the little color that it does. Overall, I am not a fan. This can be totally skipped. Read more about my Colourpop Experience here.

Total Money Wasted: 4278 INR

I am not the person who will buy stuff on a whim, yet I end up with such duds! I hope you learn from these mishaps and save some money and time. Also check out the Volume 1 in this series here and Volume 2 here. It’s important to remember that this is my experience with the products and they might work differently for you.

Are there any such disappointing products you have experience? Help a sister and let me know about those in the comments.

  1. Same with the Clinique take the day off. Try the balm version-totally different haha. They have the same exact formula but they work completely differently. The balm melts away makeup so easily but the liquid version is not impressive at all. xx

    • Yes, I have tried the balm. Definitely a better experience than this one. Paige, thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, don’t be a stranger.
