L’Oreal Paris- Base Magique Primer | Review

This one isn’t a new launch and has been around for quite a while. But it is one of those products that is easily accessible and a lot of folks have been asking me about it. I got mine a couple of years ago in prep for an important event and since have tried it in various ways with different foundations and am finally confident to write a fair review.

Loreal Paris – Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer – Consistency

It is packaged in a small glass tub which is disappointing because you gotta dip your fingers in and that’s just unhygienic. But I think the brand went for a tub package because of the consistency; it is so thick that they could not have given us a tube!

Its fragrance free which is a “yeyy” for sensitive skin. The product is light pink in colour and is super viscous, so much so that I find it a little difficult to spread evenly and one ends up using a lot more than is necessary to cover the whole face.

But once spread, it does fill up the pores and imperfections, making the skin comparatively smoother. This is possible due to the ton of silicones in it. This primer is thick yet it does not make the skin feel greasy or waxy but one can immediately tell that it contains Silicones. The light pink colored cream is translucent and does definitely add a slight white cast to the face but this will get covered by the foundation.

Silicone base might be a problem for folks with sensitive skin. Even though the brand claims it to be non-comedogenic, its important to do a thorough job of makeup removal if this product has been used. Read important stuff you should know about Silicones here.

Over this, foundation and other makeup goes on smooth and lasts for a long time. My major beef with this product is that after a few hours it makes me so shiny, it’s not even funny! There have been times I have worn this under foundation on important events where I didn’t get an opportunity to powder and trust me it was not a pretty sight! Don’t even get me started on the kickback from flash photography! I have combination skin and an oily T-Zone so perhaps this primer will behave differently if you have a different skin type.

Pros:

  • Does a good job of smoothing imperfections
  • Easily available everywhere
  • Can also be used as a base for eye-shadow

Cons:

  • Expensive: Price to Quantity ratio is imbalanced.
  • Does not spread easily.
  • Contains Silicones.
  • Makes my skin oily after a few hours.

Closing Thoughts:

Unfortunately this one didn’t fare well for me and I wont be repurchasing it. The product quantity is quite small – like an eye cream and contains 15 ml of product. The quantity, to be honest is questionable, as the price per ml is pretty similar to high-end brands, yet the product performance is incomparable to them.

Have you had a different experience with the product? Are there any priming product that have wow-d you? Do let me know in the comments.

  1. There is a proverb in English that ” First sight is last forever.” Without having a good face, it is not impossible to do something better in the glummer world. So, for doing better, you mush refresh your face that means your skin by using the products.
