A few months back I won a bunch of NYX products in a giveaway held by Tshering Yangzom of Titi’s Corner. This 3 IN 1 brow pencil was something that I was most excited about. Brow products have taken over the market by storm. Initially popularized by Anastasia Beverly Hills in 2013 and there has been no looking back since then. Each & every brand offers brow makeup in their portfolio these days. Rightfully so because well done brows are never out of fashion.
You know I am sucker for all the 2 in 1, 3 in 1 products, just about anything more than 1! So obviously I was super stoked to try this because it is literally 3 different brow products at a decent price point. Other brands offer each of these products separately which adds up to a lot more than 1000 Rupees. Unfortunately the shade they sent me- “Auburn” was absolutely wrong for my almost black brows. In fact this colour is not going to work for Darker Hair range and can perhaps only be used for creative fashion shoots. This was very disappointing but I did try it a few times and got a swatch post out of it.
The pencil contains 3 different sections with the following products:
- Liner– meant to outline the brows and fill in sparse areas of the brow by using short stroke mimicking hair.
- Powder – Fills in the sparse area of the brow with the powder pigment that matches your brow hair color giving the brow a denser look.
- Mascara – A colored brow mascara with a spooley brush, intended to set the look and hold the brow hair in place.
MRP: ₹1000 slashed to ₹800
One unbeatable brow beautifier, three go-to goodies. NYX Professional Makeup Professional Makeup introduces a versatile 3-in-1 Brow that includes everything you need to build exquisite arches. A retractable pencil, powder, and brow mascara.
- Achieve eyebrows that are as natural-looking or bold as you desire by applying these essentials alone or together.

- Complete the look by setting your brows with a swipe of mascara

I am somewhat of a Packaging Design Nerd so trust me when I say the packaging on this one is fantastic. Great quality & sturdy plastic casing with a luxe glossy finish. It has a dedicated space for each of the three products. Super compact and well designed.
The pencil liner has a thick and stubby tip, and no way of sharpening it. So it’s not easy to create thin strokes. Moreover the formula is dry and patchy which adds to the problem. Also its difficult to blend with just the hands, one has to have a spiral brush at hand that will help to blend out the product.
The powder resides in the middle compartment and one needs to be careful to open it because it has a tendency of fall out and no one wants that on their clothes. This part has a foam tip applicator which picks up the product from below. It tends to pick up a lot of product so one needs to be careful to brush out excess which is wasteful because there is no way to do this over the powder compartment since it is so small.
The powder sticks to the skin which helps in filling up the sparse areas but it is impossible to do a good job with just the foam applicator. Here as well one would need an extra brow brush to get an even finish. Also since the foam applicator picks up so much product, fall-out is a real problem. Mind you this powder will smudge if you don’t set it with a gel/ mascara.
The last bit is the brow mascara. This is of a very liquid consistency and highly pigmented so little goes a long way. One needs to use this quite sparingly otherwise it will stain the complete brow. Again it is very difficult to do this with the applicator provided because it is completely saturated in the pigmented liquid and there is no way to reduce it. I take it on the back of my hand and use an angled brush to get it right. Also it does not do a very good job of setting because even after drying it does have a tendency to smudge. Imagine the nightmare of walking around with smudged brows!
I am not sure if this is a problem with this particular shade but over all it was quite disappointing. So if one was to buy this product with a goal of saving money, that would be a complete disaster. I was really hoping this product would work because in theory it is fantastic but in reality it was a complete let down.
