In design school we often did exercises where we interpreted something classic in a new or a different way. This version of the the Black Opium launched in 2014 is a Rock and Roll inspired interpretation of the original YSL Opium that came into being in the year 1977. This is often done by brands to continue to ride on the fame of a classic while capturing the audience of modern times.

Shu Uemura: Eyelash Curler | Review
Thanks to genes and the lord for I have pretty long and considerably voluminous lashes. Due to this for a greater part of my life I never really used mascara let alone an eyelash curler! After I started blogging and started noticing how certain products have such a hype surrounding them my curiosity led me to check these out for myself. On one such occasion I ended up with the cult favorite Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler.
Tulip Chair
In my house I have a rectangular dining table, with two chairs that have four legs each residing beside the long side and a bench with four legs on the opposite. When Ms. Super Consumer visited me and saw this setting the first thing she said is “I love how the bench is reducing the clutter of legs”. And she was absolutely right, the bench that serves the purpose of two chairs but simultaneously reduced the clutter by four legs gives a feel of spaciousness and clutter free vision. Similar were the thoughts of Eero Saarinen when he designed the Industrial Design Classic – The Tulip Chair.
Miss Dior EDP | Review
To be absolutely honest I got this just for the rich history behind this product and that beautiful bottle! Lets take a moment to admire this wonderful piece of packaging design. Yes I admit, I am (or was, so I would like to believe) one of those people that get swayed by great packaging. This perfume is not for the weak hearted; its strong and bold in every sense of the word.
Hermès Birkin
When it comes to Iconic handbags, the Hermès Birkin is the ultimate status symbol. It is known for its superior craftsmanship and an insane price tag. Standard models start around US$7,000. Hermès is known to be extremely secretive about the number of Birkin bags that it manufactures each year, limiting the supply to the elite and fashionable.
Chanel 2.55
Today I am taking a look at yet another iconic piece of design, fashion design to be accurate. Amongst the many fields of Design, fashion is very popular and easily understood by laymen. Especially in India if you say ” I am a Designer”, majority will think “Haan kapde silti hogi” (must be sewing clothes), and assume you are a Fashion Designer. For this (amongst other) reason designers from other design disciplines tend to take fashion design with a pinch of salt. But like any other field of design be it Industrial or Furniture, Fashion Design also has the same core values and the final outcome is a reflection of the designer and their inspiration. Of course the Form vs. Function debate is also very valid in the field of Fashion Design. So today I am taking a look at one such piece of iconic design that was born out of necessity and went on to become an icon in the world of Fashion Design – The Chanel 2.55 Handbag.
Hello Kitty’s World Domination
Recently a very special munchkin came into my life and I wanted to buy a soft toy for her, my first choice was a cute cow because “Gaay humari maata hai” and the socio-political weather in India calls for every child and adult to know this by heart! But looked like the Cow Plush was very popular and was out of stock in no time. So I bought a Hello Kitty instead, but the munchkin’s mummy didnt know what a high roller Hello Kitty was in the world of Graphic Design! So I thought along with her I will take you guys on this introductory journey through the world of this cute white cat which strangely has no mouth and yet is the most recognisable graphic on this planet.
Hot Bertaa
When you read the title – what did you think of? Tell me your honest answers in the comments. When I first came across Hot Bertaa, I thought it was totally apt because Continue reading
The Zig-Zag Chair
If you have been reading my Design section you know how much I love the Form vs. Function debate. At various stages of life I find myself identify with different sides. During my B.Arch days I was staunchly on team “Function”, but post Industrial Design education and few years of work in the field seems to be gradually pulling me into team “Form”. So today I want to write about one more piece of furniture which further fuels this debate- The Zig-Zag Chair by Gerrit Rietveld.
9093 Kettle
In school while studying Architecture & later Industrial Design, my professors could not stop emphasizing on the fact that one’s design needs to solve a problem. Yet the students were expected to do tried and tested design assignments which (of-course) needed to solve a problem. But what is one to do, when there is no problem or better yet, the problem has already been solved in genius ways? After a lot of sweat, blood and tears I learnt the answer to that question – Make it better! Continue reading
