I am on a mission to find great shades of nude lipstick that I can wear without looking like a zombie, which is the reason these  NYX Simply Nude Lip Cream Crayons caught my eye. And they have so many different shades so I knew I had to try it.

 

 

The NYX Simply Nude Lip Cream Crayons come in 6 shades, I’ll be reviewing 2 shades from the range – “Sable” and “Exposed”. I chose these because I thought these were the only ones that will look good on my brown (NC 40 -42) skin. The others would work great on lighter skinned folks. I bought mine from Ulta.com because NYX hadn’t launched in India then.

These come in a retractable stick package with a transparent cap. I find the length of these crayons help me with a more precise application than the smaller bullets of lipsticks. Moreover I appreciate NYX that they made these retractable instead of the ones that need to be sharpened because they are a waste of time and product.

The formulation is  creamy in texture and the color payoff is brilliant. One swipe and you get an opaque layer of color on your lips. Which is great if you are precise because the pigmentation leaves no room for error. They are not hydrating  but not drying either, so it works best on prepped lips.

You need to work hard in finding the shade that suits you because chances are the light ones will wash out most Indian skin tones. My color is “Sable” which is a brown with a pink undertone and is very close to the color of my lips. “Exposed” is lighter and does wash me out if I build the color up, so I wear it with a clear gloss to add more definition. I also used “Exposed” to create color gradation (ombre) and mixed with other colors to lighten them.

These give a semi matte finish; like  a more comfortable version of the ultra matte lipsticks. It stays put on my lips for a good 3-4 hours and more if I don’t eat or drink. It does transfer but the pigment remains on the lips.

The creaminess comes with a disadvantage, since it is so delicate the stick ends up breaking. “Sable” reached me broken so the tip had hit the plastic cover and had smudged there. I managed to shove it back in – but I need to be careful to not store it upside down or shake it too much. Its clearly not travel friendly. The transparent plastic cap is a little flimsy, mine cracked in no time.

Pros:

• Beautiful Nude shades
• Great pigmentation
• Soft and creamy
• Good staying power
• Semi Matte Finish

Cons:

• Product Breaks making it unsuitable to pack while travelling
• Not readily available everywhere

Closing Thoughts:
