Aloe Vera is a well known ingredient for its moisturizing and soothing property. I would ideally prefer to use the gel directly from the plant but I have gloriously failed at keeping an Aloe plant alive, so I went the packaged & preserved route. Previously I have tried some gels from Patanjali and Shri Shri’s brand but both of them were very sticky and weird after drying so I was generally averse to the packaged options but The Face Shop’s Jeju Aloe Fresh Soothing Gel has surprised me!
The Face Shop’s Jeju Aloe Fresh Soothing Gel is claimed to be formulated with 99% aloe barbadensis leaf extract from Jeju Island, which is nice but it also has a host of other ingredients which is not always a good thing. But a packaged form of something natural would call for preservatives so unfortunately that cannot be escaped.

- A multi-functional soothing gel that can be used for soothing, moisturizing and pack with 99% aloe from pristine Jeju island.
- Aloe is well-known for its soothing, moisturizing and anti bacteria effects and this intensely nourishing gel leaves the skin feeling soft and supple, all throughout the day.
- Contains Aloe extract that soothes & intensely moisturizes the skin
Ingredients:
The product comes packed in a tub. If you have been with me you know I hate tubs because scooping out product with hands is unhygienic since we are introducing the product to the germs and dirt on our hand. Also the product is largely exposed to air and light which further reduces its shelf life. But in this case I can understand the tub packaging because if you are using the aloe on your body and have to double dip while your hands are already sticky a tube might actually be a hassle. (I have also come to learn that in some regions this product is also available in a tube)
The gel is transparent and has a refreshing fragrance to it. Added perfume in skin care products is known to be an irritant so folks with sensitive skin definitely do a patch test before going all in. The scent in itself is quite mellow and refreshing. It wears away in sometime and doesn’t overwhelm the senses.
The product has a thin watery gel like consistency. It’s lovely to look at in the tub when it shakes. It spreads well and gets absorbed really quickly. The best part is after it gets absorbed it leaves the skin hydrated and feeling refreshed without any stickiness. This in my opinion is a huge win for this product because some of the other local brands were quite tacky after they dried.
The gel feels cool on the skin and is probably due to the spearmint extract in the ingredients. Some people don’t like this but I find this attribute quite pleasant especially during the warmer months. After the product has completely dried the skin has a satin matte finish.
There are many folks I know who often struggle in incorporating Aloe Vera Gel in their skin care so here are some ways I put it to use:
1: Moisturizer
I use it as a moisturizer as is or sometimes mix a drop of oil or serum and then apply for added hydration.
2: Moisturizing Pack
On cleansed skin I apply a thick layer of this and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, after which massage it into the skin. There are products like this one from Loveisderma specifically meant to be used as a moisturizing pack but this Aloe Gel makes a great alternative.
3: Soothing Salve
After threading or plucking my upper lip and eyebrows when the skin is feeling a little raw, I gently apply a layer of this on inflamed skin to sooth it. Best part is this product does not sting.
4: Hair Tonic
Aloe vera facilitates hair growth and is claimed to prevent split ends by keeping the hair hydrated. So after wash I apply it to my ends and on the scalp. I have also used this as a hair pack before washing my hair where I gently massage the scalp for 15 minutes using this gel.
5: After Shave
Razor burn on Hands and Legs is commonplace for me, so I use this gel as an after shave to soothe the skin.
6: Sunburn Remedy
This can be applied on areas that are sun burnt to reduce the blistering and itchiness. For additional cooling it can be stored in the fridge before application.
7: Under Eye Mask
When I have had to stay up the night or when my under eye area is feeling dull and dehydrated, I apply a thin layer of this under the eye. It keeps the skin cool and moisturized. For additional hydration I soak a cotton round in rose water and cut into halves and then place each half over the layer of gel.
8: Body Lotion
During the summer month I use it as it is for light hydration all over the body. On some days I mix a little Lavender massage oil for added hydration.
9: Hair Gel
I have a lot of thin baby hair near my hairline which flies away in all direction. Sometimes I use a little gel to set it in place and keep it moisturized.
10: Mix it with Face Pack
There are many face packs that require us to mix the dry content with water/ milk. Sometimes I mix it in with this Aloe Gel for added hydration. It also helps the mask stick to the face for longer without getting very dry and stretching the skin.
In conclusion I think it is great to have a nice Aloe Gel in your kitty since it’s such a versatile product. When it comes to this specific product by The Face Shop here are some Pros and Cons.
Pros:
- Value for Money
- Effective- Hydrating and Refreshing.
Cons:
- Contains added fragrance ( Can cause sensitivity)
- Contains Alcohol ( Can be drying)
- Not easily available offline.
Closing Thoughts:
I believe it’s a decent offering by the Korean Giant – The Face Shop primarily because of its versatility. Two aspects most in favour of this product as against some of the others I have tried in the past are the facts that it does not sting even when used on freshly threaded/waxed skin and once dry leaves the skin smooth and non- sticky.
Let me know your opinion in the comments if you have tried this already or if you have any recommendations for me. Check out some of the other products I have tried from The Face Shop here and here. Also find me on Instagram and lets talk beauty!

Can I use this face shop Aloe Vera gel as a night cream everyday
Hey Mou, I believe you can but it doesn’t have the many benefits that an actual night cream can offer.
I love aloe! It has many uses, not only for the skin. I have an aloe spray here which I use to prep my skin before makeup and it really feels fresh!
Defintely the freshness is unparalleld, especially during summer!
I hear a lot of good things about this product, especially during my breakout. I havent tried this one yet, but Im gonna buy this soon!
I would love to know your thoughts about this!
Although it does have some cons, I wouldn’t mind trying this. I’ve been struggling to find a gel that actually holds my hair.

Cool review. I tried this one out a year ago and it showed great results.
Neil, glad to know you enjoyed using it! Do let me know if you have any reccomendations.
I am not sure if this will have the same impact as a strong hold hair gel but it does keep my flyaways tamed.
i often use aloe vera, it has many benefits. it does show great results
Cannot agree more about the benefits of Aloe!
This is one of my holy grail products! Aloe has a lot of uses and it’s perfect for dry skin. Thank you for the detailed review!
Great to know that you enjoyed this!
I love using aloe vera on my skin, it is really soothing. I hope this product comes to Japan someday as I would love to use it!
I am sure the Japanese brands must have a similiar offering! Let me know your thoughts about it.
This sounds like a great product. I tried aloe vera on burns before, but it was just a cut from the actual plant, gel like this is far more practical.
Although the one from the plant must be so much more potent! I should really learn to groom plants better!
Aloe is so soothing. I have to try this product out.
Let me know your thoughts about it, would love to know your feedback.
I use aloe products a lot in the summer especially!
You definitely should, they definitely have some great benfits!
Aloe Vera is quite the magical product. I’m quite impressed by all its uses and new ones discovered every day.
Can I keep it overnight and wash in the morning?
Shruti, thanks for your comment. If you apply a thin layer it should be fine. A thick layer might not work out at night.
