I have never been a fan of oiling my hair. For a large part of my life I went without ever oiling my hair, which gradually had its repercussion and so began the quest of finding an oil that was more than just a colossal pain to wash off. I came across this one only by chance when the shopkeeper of a very busy wholesale beauty supply store pushed it on me. I almost didn’t buy it because of its price but my doting Ma bought it for me. Perhaps she thought maybe this will get her daughter to oil her hair, and it definitely did!
Cost: 710 INR for 200 ml

Product Claims: A combination of therapeutic oils and extracts, it nourishes the hair and protects it from dandruff and hair loss. Based on Ayurveda, it contains olive oil, sesame seed oil, almond oil, wheat germ oil, along with extracts of shikakai, brahmi, amla and henna. Prevents scalp problems and premature graying, keeping the scalp healthy and promoting healthy hair growth.
Ingredients: Brahmi Extract , Amla Extract , Shikakai Extract , Mehndi Extract , Badam Tel, Wheat Germ Oil , Jaitun Tel, Kalongi Oil , Til Tel , Moongphali Tel.( I wonder why they list some as “tel” (tel is hindi for oil) and some as “oil”)
I have been using it since many years – the packaging has changed twice during this time (so has the price). That definitely says something about the span of my good relationship with this product. The package is currently of an opaque plastic and has a flip-up cap. (Previous bottle had a gold coloured screw on lid.) The oil is of a very runny consistency so one has to be careful while pouring it out. The oil is non-sticky and lightweight so folks who prefer a little oil during the day time might like it. But there have been time I have gone over-board and it has stained the pillow case.
I have thin straight hair with dry frizzy ends so this does an excellent job at taming that frizz. I oil my hair the night before and next day post shampoo I see a noticeable difference in texture and feel, it smoothens and softens the hair shaft to a great extent. The hair looks conditioned and less dry. Once in a blue moon when I have the time, post oiling I wrap the hair in a hot towel or steam the hair and this enhances the product performance.
The smell like other “Ayurvedic” products is intense and I am not a fan of it but I have chosen to endure it for the results. It is definitely a little heavy on the pocket but a bottle lasts me a long time and the results seem worth it.
Claims about healthy scalp and no dandruff is not met and I can’t comment about premature greying because I have quite a few grey hair and I guess one would have to be very committed to their oiling schedule (which, I am not) to see results in that area.
- Nonsticky – Light Weight
- Packaging is not very travel friendly
- Intense Smell.
This one is an oldy but a goody! It is on the expensive side but little goes a long way and the results seem to justify the cost. Moreover I also find solace in the ingredient list which contains many natural ingredients.
