To be honest I am not a mask person, I don’t have the time or inclination to mask at all! Mostly because I have a serious doubt about their effectiveness and nobody wants to answer the door with green goop on their faces! So selecting one then buying it and using it often to come up with a review, was beyond just tasking for me.
I went for Tea Tree & Charcoal because, well charcoal-everything is the latest buzz word in the skin care world so I wanted to see whats that all about. And I bought it from Juicy Chemistry because their products are claimed to be all natural and I felt like giving my money to an Indian Boutique Brand rather than some big multi national corporation.
Product Claims: Charcoal draws out pore-clogging muck and tea-tree oil acts as an anti-septic. Peppermint oil perks up your skin and improves circulation, and ground almonds provide extra exfoliation leaving your skin clean and trouble-free.
Cost: 300 INR for 25 grams. (Also available INR 550 for 50gm)

Ingredients: Oatmeal, Organic Rice Flour, Prunus dulcis (Almond-meal), Juglans regia (Walnut), Ocimum basilicum (Basil), Rosa (Rose), Lavandula (Lavender), Mentha (Peppermint), Fuller’s Earth, Activated Carbon, Mentha piperita (Peppermint Essential Oil), Piper nigrum (Black Pepper Essential Oil), Citrus bergamia (Bergamot Essential Oil), Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree Essential Oil), Juniperus communis (Juniper Berry Essential Oil)
I bought the 25 gram package and it is enough for around 5 time use. If one is stingy a few more. It is shipped along with a wooden spoon which is a convenient accessory to scoop out the dry content. One is expected to mix it with Milk or Water, I have tried it with both and no percivable differencce in performance can be attributed to the liquid you mix. Be careful not to add too much liquid otherwise it is going to drip and stain!
The mask smells like how all natural products smell – i.e not great but not bad either! After a while one just gets used to it. It gives a cooling sensation perhaps due the peppermint. Once the mask is dry you are supposed to wash it off and this is where going gets tough! Its pretty difficult to remove you will need time, patience and a lot of running water and some more time to scrub your basin off the stains! Also when the mask dries the bigger particles (perhaps the oatmeal) will start falling so don’t wait for too long. The removal of this face mask is like using a face scrub so don’t use a scrub before the mask otherwise that would be too much exfoliation for the day.
Once you are done with washing it off, it does make the skin look refreshed and clean. I didn’t see any difference in the black heads and pore size and I am not sure it drew out the “pore-clogging muck” as claimed. I dont have much acne so I cant claim any difference on that front.
It did not have any effect on the oil secretion on the T-zone which was back to its usual slick self in a few hours. Folks with Dry skin should not opt for this mask. People with a black head problem will perhaps see a difference after a few uses attributed to the exfoliation that will happen while removal.
Pros:
- Feels refreshing while on and after
- Good for usage during the Summers
- All Natural Ingredients
- Made in India
Cons:
- It is on the expensive side considering it’s not ready to use (one needs a mixing liquid)
Closing Thoughts:
