Ouai Haircare as a brands has a huge hype surrounding it! Considering it is created by celebrity stylist Jen Atkin famed for keeping up the manes of the Kardashians, which in itself guaranteed the brand its fair share of limelight! Everybody who knows anything about hair-care is talking about it so I had to give some of their products a shot! In this post I am reviewing the Ouai Volume Spray because this girl definitely needs more volume.

North Bondi: Bergamot, Italian Lemon, Rose De Mai, Magnolia, Lily, Blackberry, Violet, Cedar-wood, Amber, Patchouli, Sandalwood, and White Musk.
How to use:
- Mist onto roots of damp hair.
- Hit with a blow dryer.
- Weightless volume that lasts all day.
Or, for an instant on-the-go root lift, mist lightly onto dry hair and scrunch up!
It comes packaged in a simple plastic transparent spray bottle. There is nothing to the packaging it is basic other than the branding which is on trend with its only typography based minimal design. The spray bottle spurts out the product but it is not quite even and depends on the pressure one exerts. Chances are you will need some practice to be able to get the right control. For the price I wish the spray mechanism could be better designed to give a finer even mist.

This product has a strong floral + woody fragrance which to be honest is the highlight of the product. Ouai products all have a strong fragrance and one could buy the fragrance form if they wished. This one is called “North Bondi” and I am glad I like it! But if one ends up not liking the fragrance it would be a deal breaker because it is so strong and after you have sprayed this on the hair it is going to be fragrant for a long time and people adjacent to you will notice it!
I have 2-A hair type. It is flatter at the root and lays close to the scalp, it starts becoming wavy from the ears down. The waves are fine with a loose, tousled texture. There isn’t a lot of volume nor a lot of definition and I run a risk of loosing whatever I have if I end up using a heavy hair styling product. It is long-ish, till the middle of my back and also quite limp over all due to the self-weight of that much hair! To add to this my scalp is super oily so after two days of shampoo the first few inches of hair closest to my scalp start showing that oily greasy shine and will stick to the scalp and become even more flatter than usual. I really wanted this spray to remedy this zero volume situation!

My 2A Hair | 2 days post shampoo | Without any product
I was using this volumizing shampoo so post shampoo volume is taken care of and I did not want my hair to become extra big so initially I didn’t use this after shampoo instead I used this on hair that was a few days old and really needed some help on the crown and I was pleasantly surprised when it came through.
I sprayed it near the roots and worked it through the top few inches of the hair with my hands and the effect was slight but visible. There was some lift at the roots and an added texture and body to the hair strands. The best part being that despite the structure there wasn’t the crunchiness that is almost a given with some of the other hair sprays!
The spray boasts of hibiscus extract in its ingredients, which perhaps adds to that fresh floral smell. I wash my hair once every week so midweek when I feel I need a little refreshing I use this not just for the volume but also for the great scent.

Ouai Haircare: Volume Spray | Closing Thoughts
I also gave it a shot on freshly shampooed damp hair before blow drying and was disheartened to see that it actually made my hair greasy & seemingly oily. After my hair dried it was limp & lacked any kind of body. The first time this happened I thought I did a poor job of shampooing but this happened each time thereafter. Not sure why it reacts this way on damp hair when that is how the brand guides one to use it!
Pros:
- Fragrance that stays.
- Does not dry or make the hair rough.
- Will work well for fine/limp hair.
- Free of Parabens & Phthalates.
Cons:
- Expensive.
- Did not work for me when used on damp hair.
- Will not work for coarse & heavy hair.
- Spray is not as fine.

When the famous Wave Spray by the same brand did not work for me I was super skeptical about this one but I am beyond glad that this did have some effect on my hair. I cant wait to experiment more with this and will definitely keep you posted.

That’s good to know not to use it when hair is damp. See this is just the reason I like to see a review before I decide on a product, you write about things I wouldn’t think of because you’ve already used it.
