Urban Ladder- Review & Purchase Experience

Urban Ladder is a popular Furniture E-store in India and they have been around for a while now. They have a very nicely done webpage, by that I mean very few dead links and well-organized content. The products look great too and I have spent a lot of time + data packs browsing through their wares adding stuff to wish list but never mustering enough courage to spend that much money on furniture without actually seeing it. But then around December 2016 they had the “Honestly Good Sale” where the prices were slashed up to 50% so I thought this opportunity was too good to be passed. (Obviously, my consumerism knows no bounds!) I wanted a table lamp so I decided to buy the “Hedwig Table Lamp”.

This is how it is presented on the website:

Patanjali Dant Kanti Toothpaste – worth all the noise its making?

Today I am reviewing the very popular Patanjali Dant Kanti Toothpaste. Yeah.. yeah, its associated with Ramdev Baba and the humdrum around his FMCG Brand- Patanjali. Amidst all the noise with linked keywords like Propaganda, Yoga, Marketing gimmick, Ayurveda, Politics, Nepotism etc etc one cannot deny the fact that Patanjali rose to a Rs. 5,000-crore company in less than a decade, due to which other MNCs have been forced to shift focus on Ayurveda too. I have also mentioned this in the Ultra Blends post here. Hypothetically even if the associated keywords are true, the renewed interest in natural ingredients is a definite good thing! To be honest I would have never tried Dant Kanti but my Dentist recommended it!

Romance Scam

Internet savvy people are well aware of the online Nigerian scams. They are of various kinds, the 419 scam, where they offer to transfer a lot of money into your bank account, or the lottery scam, where they tell you that you’ve won something in some phony lottery etc. But in a dating scam (also known as romance scam), besides just asking for money the scammers build a bogus persona complete with an attractive image to trap unsuspecting victims.

Bio Oil – Thoughts & First Impression

I have been using Bio Oil since September 2016 and have gone through 3/4th of the bottle yet I am not sure if I should review it already, so I am calling this post a “Thoughts & First Impression”. Also I see a lot of folks going through many bottles and claiming miraculous results so I have decided to wait for the miracle. (That is not sarcasm- I just felt the need to clarify!)

OMG! Triclosan

Couple of months back the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) ruling about prohibition of the sale of “consumer antiseptic washes” containing Triclosan or 18 other ingredients marketed as antimicrobial was rocking the beauty and personal care product world. Looking further into Triclosan I found that it is yet another notorious ingredient that we all need to watch out for. Read ahead for what I dug up. Continue reading

OMG! Silicones

Today in the “OMG!”series I am taking a look at another one of those ingredients that is fast emerging as the mischief maker of the hair-care world, Silicones! Initially it was the wonder ingredient that made hair look spectacular but lately its being called into question due to its many negative effects.

Lets talk “Period” !

To be honest none of us ladies are thrilled about it, but its something we have to deal with monthly, for a major part of our lives. Yes, I am talking about periods! It’s still considered a taboo to speak and discuss this in India but things are gradually changing. The markets are opening up to newer and better products to manage periods. So today I am collaborating with a dear friend, Shweta who writes about her experience of using the Menstrual Cup and Re-usable cotton pads. Being an early adopter (since these are relatively new entrants into Indian Markets) of these feminine-hygiene products I asked Shweta to elaborates on the pros and cons of these.  Continue reading

OMG! Sulfates

Have you guys noticed the frequent use of the term “Sulfates” lately? Women in those pretentious parties insisting products they use are absolutely free of Sulfates…. Boutique brands claiming to be a healthier option because “Sulfate Free” is printed in bold type on their label….Hair stylist at the salon claiming that my hair is thinning because of Sulfates in the shampoo I am using and the one that they recommend will (miraculously) make the situation better!

So after a few such instances I had, had enough and I was compelled to research and understand if I am truly doomed because my shampoo has Sulfates! Here is a gist of what I have come to understand so far.

Sulphates - Is our shampoo making us sick!

Sulfates – Is our shampoo making us sick!

The Aliexpress Experience !

I was aware of the Chinese online retailer Alibaba.com since long ago and knew that they had wonderful stuff to offer but they only dealt in wholesale (Business to Business)  and I did not want 100 pieces of the same handbag (then)!

But eventually I came across Aliexpress.com and since the amount of time and internet data packs that I have spent browsing through Aliexpress is more than just ridiculous. Aliexpress.com is a blackhole of amazing-ness, it brings out the crazy consumer in me, which otherwise I keep in check. (with mad willpower!)

OMG! Parabens

Anyone who knows anything about cosmetics or skin care will slightly cringe at the mention of Parabens. Lately there has been so much chatter about it from both sides, one that claims it to be safe and the others that claim it to be terribly dangerous. Many boutique brands claim themselves to be paraben- free, almost bragging about it along with buzz words like Organic & Ayurvedic, affirming themselves as healthy and clean. But is that true? What is one to believe?
