Chubby Sticks are so popular lately, literally every colour cosmetic can be found in a chubby stick format. There is something so satisfying about holding a fat crayon and going to town; I guess it brings out the child in us. Lakme was on trend when they launched these Lip Pout Crayons and I was able to try the shade Mauve Hue.

This was launched last year close to the Lakme India fashion week and Kareena Kapoor could be seen wearing these on hoardings all over town. They launched it initially in 6 colours. The colour range was limited to vibrant reds, oranges and pinks. Lakme despite being an Indian brand repeatedly fails to address that Indians have varied skin tones and just six colours might not be enough!
The one I tried is called Mauve Hue and it is really a blue toned pink with very little of the Mauve to mention. If one was to select these shades online I would suggest they not rely on the actual names and focus only on swatches.
It comes in a retractable crayon packaging which is great because then one doesn’t need to bother with a sharpener. The outer plastic packaging is super fat and the bullet of lipstick within is quite slim. Considering that I wonder if we are paying majority of the cost just for the packaging because it is after all only 3.7 grams of products.
The consistency of these is quite creamy and tends to melt at high temperature. The brand also mentions that they need to be stored below 30 degrees. I guess this is due to the high amount of emollients in it, which also provide that shiny finish.
These crayons are not highly pigmented and this is also because of the high amount of oil/ wax. They give a sheer wash of colour and will last for a few hours if one doesn’t eat or drink. It will definitely not survive a meal or a cup of coffee and would require re-application. They transfer a lot and will need to touched up frequently.
Surprisingly, despite having a ton of oil /wax content it is not as hydrating I had expected it to be. So if one was to think that this could replace their lip balm it might not be enough hydration especially for dry – chapped lips.

Closing Thoughts:
In my opinion this is an average lipstick that really doesn’t deserve to be sold at its original price point of 600+ Rupees. There are many other lipsticks available at half the cost which give a similar performance. Infact Lakme’s Enrich range is equally good and contains a large shade range, one also gets 1 gram of extra product at half the cost.
Also something that really bothers me is the fact that Lakme has not mentioned the ingredients on the package and nor can I find them on their or any other webpage!

So well reviewed, it’s great to have a blogger who dissects the product and gives the exact review to the consumer. Well done.
Thanks! Glad you liked it! 🙂
